Official project updates
This update pulls in Erlang/OTP 26.0 and Buildroot 2023.02.1. For the Buildroot portion, most projects that work with nerves_system_br v1.22.x shouldn’t need any changes with this update, but please review the Buildroot release notes.
Upgrade notes
- The default TERM setting changed from vt100 to xterm-256color. In the past, this didn’t really matter. With OTP 26, the TERM setting starts being used so applications that use the terminal may change how they render.
- OTP 26.0 comes with a multiline editor. At the time of this release multiline editing didn’t work with ssh so it’s currently disabled.

This is a major update to Circuits.GPIO that removes the requirement to use Nerves or Linux. The API is almost the same and the default is to compile and use the Linux backend, so changes may not be needed.
This is a prerelease so APIs may still change before the v2.0.0 release.

This is a major update to Circuits.I2C that removes the requirement to use Nerves or Linux. The API is almost the same and the default is to compile and use the Linux backend, so changes may not be needed.
This is a prerelease so APIs may still change before the v2.0.0 release.
- Changes
- Support alternative backends for different operating systems or for simulated hardware
- For the Linux NIF, support passing a :retry count to Circuits.I2C.open/2 that will apply to all I2C operations. This simplifies dealing with devices with flaky connections.
- Defer loading the Linux NIF until Circuits.I2C.open/2 is called
- Return error on Circuits.I2C.open/2 if the device isn’t a real I2C device. This was previously detected on the first operation.
- For the Linux NIF, return errno numbers rather than their strerr strings when they’re unknown. It turned out that the strings could be more confusing that the numbers.

- Write or port a new hardware library and include it in the Elixir Circuits collection.
- Give money to the project via Open Collective.
- Get in touch about taking over maintenance duties for some libraries, we might be able to provide you hardware.
- Apply for an EEF stipend on something Nerves-related and build it. We can help if you have questions about this.
- Send corrections or improvements for documentation wherever it fails to help you.
- Write about Nerves, give talks about Nerves. Make videos about Nerves. It is all good.
